A poster submitted in ENG 207 taught by Dr. David Prescott for the Fall 2013 semester.
It talks about diversifying sources of energy in the Gulf region rather than depending on one or two sources (gas and fuel). We are planning to implement clean coal technology as another source of energy. This power plant needs several processes such as Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) and carbon capture and storage technology (CCS).The role of IGCC is to generate electricity, while CCS’s role is to basically lower the emission of the greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide), which is one of the major problems of having coal power plants. The process of gasification will remove a lot of carbon dioxide from the coal. Therefore, the emissions that will be released from the gasification exhaust stream will be captured and stored by CCS technology. Harmonizing those two aspects of gasification and carbon capturing and storage, clean coal will be one of the energy sources that are viable and efficient.
